Admissions Frequently Asked Questions

Admissions Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications does my child need to have to attend Achieve?
Achieve Charter School shall admit all pupils who reside in California and wish to attend the school (up to capacity). No test or assessment shall be administered to students prior to acceptance and enrollment into the school. Pupils will be considered for admission without regard to race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, or disability.

When is open enrollment?
The publicly advertised open enrollment period starts in December for enrollment for the following school year. Following the open enrollment period each year, applications shall be counted to determine whether any grade level has received more applications than availability. In the event this happens, Achieve will hold a public random drawing to determine enrollment for the impacted grade level, with the exception of existing students (2nd year forward) who are guaranteed enrollment in the following school year. Enrollment preferences in the case of a public random drawing shall be allowed in accordance with school policy. At the conclusion of the public random drawing, all students who were not granted admission due to capacity shall be given the option to put their name on a waitlist according to their draw in the lottery. This waitlist will allow students the option of enrollment in the case of an opening during the school year. The waiting list does not carry over to the following school year, so a new application must be submitted in order to be placed on that year's waiting list.

Achieve Charter Frequently Asked Questions

Achieve Charter Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Charter School?
Visit our Mission and Charter page to learn more about charter schools.l

Is there a cost or fee to attend Achieve Charter School?
No! Our schools are open to the public and tuition-free.

What is the uniform policy?
Achieve Charter School policy requires all students to wear uniforms, beginning in the 2005-2006 school year. Achieve Charter School is committed to creating a culture of academic rigor. A uniform dress code encourages this atmosphere. Implementation of this policy will reduce distractions and disruptions caused by clothing, make economic disparities between students less obvious, minimize the use of clothing to signal gang affiliation and other risks to student safety, promote student achievement, and create an orderly learning environment. Because Achieve Charter School is a school of choice, there will be NO exemptions for students. Achieve Charter School offers uniform scholarships and also has a uniform closet with preowned uniforms to support families who may need assistance in meeting uniform requirements. Read about uniform specifics in our Parent/Student Handbook.

Does Achieve have a hot lunch program?
All students have access to free breakfast and lunch!

Does Achieve have an after-school program?
Yes! The Achieve More E.L.O.P. After School Program provides an extension of the academic and social-emotional learning program offered at Achieve Charter School. We provide a safe, caring, and fun learning environment while encouraging your child’s social, physical, academic, and mental well-being. The program starts directly after school and runs until 5:30 p.m. The daily tuition is $8 (Monday-Thursday) and $10 (Friday) and FREE for all qualifying students.

What is a Personalized Learning Plan?
Personalized Learning Plans will be developed for each student at the parent/teacher/student conference before the school year begins. At this time, students’ strengths will be identified, and goals for the coming trimester will be set. These strengths and goals will become part of your child’s Personalized Learning Plan. The PLP will provide the teacher, parents, and students with a common goal and plan for achievement for the school year. Student goals will be set for each trimester and reviewed by teachers, parents, and students at the end of each trimester. Teachers and parents will meet on a more frequent basis if needed. Achieve Charter School Staff views parents as the primary educator and asks for your assistance and input in your child’s PLP. Parents are encouraged to take the initiative to keep themselves informed of their children’s progress and work in partnership with their child’s teacher at all times during the school year. If an issue or concern comes up mid-trimester, parents should request extra parent/teacher conferences to adjust their child’s PLP.

Does Achieve have a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Program?
Achieve will not have a TK Program for the 2024-25 school year.
